Ruff Roofers: Queenstown, MD
This new building was created for Ruff Roofers, one of the largest roofing companies on the East Coast of the US. It houses a showroom, a conference space, and has a roofing materials storage component.
Located on one of the busiest highways on the East Coast – at the gateway to the beaches of the Eastern Shore - where over 70,000 vehicles pass by weekly. With such high visibility, it was important to design a structure that reflects Ruff Roofers’ well-known roofing expertise. This 100-year-old family business prides itself on high quality workmanship and expertise.

The design intent was to focus on the materials and craftsmanship. The building is a simple gable-end structure using monolithic, over-sized Alaskan Yellow wood shingles on the roof and side walls, as well as Accoya wood slats on the gable-ends (which weather to a grey color over time). A standing metal-seam canopy provides shade and weather protection over the large fenestrations to the showroom space and the entry.
